Sony's New PC Game No Longer Requires PSN Account
Exciting news for fans eagerly awaiting the release of Lost Soul Aside! The PC version of this highly anticipated game, set to launch in 2025, appears to have ditched the controversial PlayStation Network (PSN) account linking requirement. This move not only simplifies the gaming experience for PC users but also significantly broadens the game's potential market. By removing the need for a PSN account, Sony can now offer Lost Soul Aside in over 100 countries where PSN isn't supported, thereby enhancing the game's reach and sales potential.
Lost Soul Aside has been a project of passion and dedication, developed over nearly nine years by the Shanghai-based studio, UltiZeroGames. This hack and slash action RPG, inspired by the likes of Devil May Cry and focused on dynamic combat, emerged from PlayStation's China Hero Project. Sony, which has been funding the game's development, plans to publish Lost Soul Aside on both PS5 and PC. However, last year's introduction of mandatory PSN account linking for PlayStation games on PC sparked significant backlash among the gaming community.
Lost Soul Aside's Steam Page Update
Following the debut of Lost Soul Aside's latest gameplay trailer in December 2024, its Steam page went live. Initially, the page indicated that a PSN account would be necessary. Yet, the following day, the requirement was quietly removed, as confirmed by the game's SteamDB update history. This change marks Lost Soul Aside as only the second Sony-published game to drop the PSN account linking rule on PC, following the precedent set by Helldivers 2's similar controversy.
This decision will undoubtedly be a relief for PC gamers, especially those in regions without PSN support, who are eager to dive into Lost Soul Aside. It's also a noteworthy shift in Sony's approach to PC gaming, suggesting a potential softening of the PSN account linking policy for future titles. The exact reasons for this change remain unclear, but it's speculated that Sony aims to maximize the game's accessibility and player base. After all, previous PlayStation titles on PC, like God of War Ragnarok, saw reduced player counts following the implementation of PSN account linking.
