Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, the upcoming kart racer from Sega and Sonic Team, promises the biggest roster in series history. A recent PlayStation.blog post revealed exciting new features and mechanics, set to debut in an upcoming closed network test.

The game boasts an impressive lineup of iconic characters from the Sonic and Sega universes. While the full roster remains under wraps (with 23 characters confirmed at launch and more to come), the reveal trailer showcases a star-studded cast including Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, the Riders (Jet, Wave, Storm), the Deadly Six (Zavok, Zazz), Team Dark (Shadow, Rouge, E-123 Omega), Dr. Eggman and his creations (Egg Pawn, Metal Sonic), the Chaotix (Vector, Charmy, Espio), and even Blaze, Silver, Cream, and Big.

Each CrossWorld offers a unique theme park-style environment filled with unexpected obstacles, massive creatures, and stunning scenery. Expect dynamic tracks, inspired by Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, that change throughout each lap, demanding constant adaptation. The game will feature 24 main tracks and 15 distinct CrossWorlds.

Customization, Extreme Gear, and Gadgets – Oh My!

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds offers unparalleled vehicle customization. Players can tweak everything from body parts and wheels to colors, tire designs, cockpits, and even the vehicle's glow. Add to that 23 different gadgets to fine-tune your racing style, and the return of Extreme Gear hoverboards from Sonic Riders for a boost-heavy racing experience. With 45 unique vehicles, the possibilities are endless. Sonic Creative Officer Takashi Iizuka calls it "a great culmination of all the Sonic Racing series games to date."

Closed Network Test: Get Ready to Race!

A closed network test (exclusively on PlayStation 5) is scheduled to give fans a first taste of the action. Registration is open from February 12th to 19th, 2025, with the test running from February 21st to 24th, 2025. Participants completing a post-test survey will receive an exclusive in-game sticker and title.
