Sonic The Hedgehog 3 has raced past another milestone, securing its place as the second highest-grossing video game movie adaptation in North America. With Keanu Reeves joining the cast as Shadow the Hedgehog, the film has now amassed over $204 million domestically after its fourth weekend, which alone brought in $11 million across 3,582 locations. Globally, the movie's earnings have reached an impressive $384.8 million.

The film has surpassed its predecessor, Sonic 2, in the domestic box office rankings. However, it still trails significantly behind the top-earning video game movie adaptation, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which raked in a staggering $574,934,330 in North America and a global total of $1,359,146,628. These record-breaking figures set by the Nintendo adaptation might remain unmatched, though upcoming releases like the Minecraft movie and the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie could challenge this dominance.

Despite not reaching the pinnacle, Sonic The Hedgehog 3 is a resounding success for Paramount, which has already greenlit Sonic 4. In the broader landscape of video game adaptations, 2022's Uncharted holds the fourth spot with domestic earnings of $148,648,820, while the original Sonic the Hedgehog movie secures fifth place with $146,066,470.
