Skyblivion, the ambitious fan-made remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion using the engine of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, is set to launch in 2025. The dedicated mod team, composed entirely of volunteers, has been pouring their hearts and souls into this project, which they describe as a AAA-scale modding endeavor. In a recent developer update stream, the team showcased their progress and reaffirmed their commitment to a 2025 release, expressing optimism about possibly even surpassing their own timeline with the community's support.

It's not just a simple remake; Skyblivion aims to enhance and overhaul various aspects of the original game. From making unique items truly stand out to revitalizing boss encounters, like that of Mannimarco, the team is dedicated to elevating the player experience. They highlighted the "A Brush with Death" quest in their livestream, showcasing the stunning visual upgrades that bring the painted world to life.

Amidst this excitement, there's an intriguing backdrop: whispers of an official Oblivion remake. Earlier leaks suggested potential enhancements to combat and other elements, yet Microsoft has remained tight-lipped when approached by IGN. In 2023, documents from the Activision Blizzard/FTC trial inadvertently revealed mentions of an Oblivion remaster, alongside other projects like an Indiana Jones game, which has since seen the light of day. However, the Oblivion and Fallout 3 remasters remain unconfirmed.

Should Microsoft and Bethesda decide to officially relaunch Oblivion, it could impact fan projects like Skyblivion. Bethesda has a rich history of embracing modding communities across their titles, from classic games to the recent Starfield. Fans are hopeful that Skyblivion won't face the same challenges as the Fallout London mod, which encountered hurdles just before its planned release.
