Before you even think about reeling in a catch, you'll need to accept a quest. Seek out Simon the Fisherman (the white-haired fellow at the pier where the barracuda swim). He'll task you with catching 5 "fish"—and yes, those quotation marks are important, as you'll see.

To complete Simon's quest, you'll need a fishing rod and bait. Conveniently, Simon sells both. Grab a Wood Fishing Rod and at least 5 Worms (10 is recommended). Now, here's a crucial detail: you don't equip the bait. Simply keep the worms in your inventory. Each successful catch will automatically consume one worm.
And here's the real kicker: it seems you need *at least* 5 worms in your inventory to even catch anything. We initially tried with just one, with no luck. Once we hit that 5-worm minimum, the fish started biting. Keeping your worms in your hotbar is a good way to keep track.
How to Catch Fish in Rune Slayer

Select your Wood Fishing Rod (you don't equip it, just access it from your hotbar or inventory). Hold down M1 to cast your line into the water (the pier near Simon is a good spot). Watch your bobber. When you see one or two ripples, click M1 again to reel in your catch. This isn't foolproof; you might catch nothing, or you might catch junk. But don't worry, Simon counts junk as a catch!

Once you've "caught" 5 items (fish or junk), return to Simon to complete the quest. Your reward? A handy Tackle Box to store your extra worms, freeing up precious inventory space. And that's it! Happy fishing! Need more help? Check out our Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to *Rune Slayer*.
