Pokémon TCG Pocket: No Competitive Plans
The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon TCG Pocket will not be part of its competitive circuit in the near future. Delve into this article to explore Pokémon TCG Pocket's trajectory regarding competitive play and understand the potential reasons behind this decision.
Pokémon TCG Pocket Won’t Be In The Competitive Scene Just Yet
No Plans For Competitive Pocket
At present, Pokémon TCG Pocket is not slated to join Pokémon's competitive circuit. In an interview with VGC on February 25, 2025, Chris Brown, The Pokémon Company’s Director of eSports, mentioned that while they continually assess different titles for inclusion in the competitive scene, Pokémon TCG Pocket is not currently on the agenda.
Brown humorously referenced "Pokemon Sleep," alluding to an April Fool's parody trailer for a Pokemon Sleep Champion Tournament. However, he clarified, "But at this time there are no plans for Pokemon Pocket to join, but we’re always looking at things."
Too Early And Unbalanced
While no official reasons have been provided for the exclusion of Pokémon TCG Pocket from competitive play, the community has its theories. The game, which launched in October 2024 and has seen only two set releases in its first four months, may still be in its infancy.
Despite the presence of competitive features within the app from the start, players have urged developers to address ongoing balance issues. Pokémon TCG Pocket, designed as a more accessible version of the original Pokémon card game, prioritizes a beginner-friendly experience over a competitive one.
Meanwhile, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit remains vibrant, hosting events for Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite, all set to be showcased at the Pokémon World Championships in August 2025 in Anaheim, California.
