Pokemon Sleep Starts Transition to Pokemon Works as Main Developer
Pokémon Sleep Development Transitioned to Pokémon Works
Select Button, the original developer of Pokémon Sleep, is transferring development responsibilities to Pokémon Works, a newly established Pokémon subsidiary. This change is detailed below.
From Select Button to Pokémon Works
The Pokémon Company founded Pokémon Works earlier this year, sparking much speculation. Now, eight months later, Pokémon Works will assume ongoing development and updates for Pokémon Sleep. The in-app announcement (via machine translation) states that development and operation will gradually shift from Select Button to Pokémon Works.
This announcement appeared in the Japanese version of the Pokémon Sleep app. The global app's news section has yet to reflect this change.
Pokémon Works' current projects remain largely undisclosed. However, their website states that the company is a collaborative venture between The Pokémon Company and Iruka Co., Ltd.
Furthermore, Pokémon Works shares a Tokyo location with ILCA, known for developing the 2021 Pokémon remakes, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and for co-developing Pokémon HOME. Pokémon Works' involvement in Pokémon HOME development is also confirmed.
While their previous Pokémon-related work is limited, the company aims to "create an experience that makes Pokémon more real... so that everyone can enjoy meeting and adventuring with Pokémon." The application of this vision to Pokémon Sleep remains to be seen.
