Pirate Software Kicked Out of OnlyFangs World of Warcraft Guild

Summary

  • World of Warcraft streamer Pirate Software was expelled from the OnlyFangs guild following a disastrous Dire Maul North run resulting in Hardcore character deaths.
  • His refusal to accept responsibility for the deaths prompted Guild Master Sodapoppin to remove him.

Pirate Software's dismissal from the prominent World of Warcraft streaming guild, OnlyFangs, stemmed from a failed Dire Maul North attempt on the recently introduced Anniversary servers. Dire Maul, newly accessible on these servers, has already claimed several OnlyFangs Hardcore characters.

Prior to Blizzard's official launch of Hardcore servers in August 2023 (which saw a decline in popularity until the November 2024 Anniversary server launch), players self-regulated zero-death runs. The Anniversary servers revitalized World of Warcraft Classic, overshadowing the original Classic servers in popularity. Numerous Hardcore players have perished since the Anniversary servers' addition, while others have achieved level 60 under the stringent rules. Sara and Snupy are among the latest casualties, their deaths directly attributed to Pirate Software, resulting in his banishment.

Social media posts confirmed Pirate Software's expulsion, with Guild Master Sodapoppin issuing a Discord statement detailing the reasons. The statement highlighted the guild's discomfort with Pirate Software after the deaths of two members during the Dire Maul North run. The incident involved the group pulling a boss before clearing a pack of Gordok ogres. When a party member suggested retreating to reset the encounter, Pirate Software abandoned the group during the escape, contributing to the deaths of Sara and Snupy. While normally he might have remained, his unwillingness to shoulder responsibility sealed his fate. (Note: A video documenting the event contains strong language).

Why Pirate Software's Expulsion from OnlyFangs?

The primary criticism leveled against Pirate Software was his refusal to acknowledge his role in the deaths. A post-run review by Twitch streamer Sodapoppin highlighted Pirate Software's failure to utilize crowd control abilities effectively, specifically suggesting the use of Blizzard rank 1 to slow enemies without excessive mana expenditure. Mizkif and other OnlyFangs members also allege that Pirate Software made threats to fellow streamers following the incident. Pirate Software responded to his removal on Twitter, expressing dissatisfaction with how the situation was handled.

Given the numerous expulsions from OnlyFangs since its recreation on the Doomhowl Anniversary server, some former members may form their own group. With Blizzard implementing Vanilla-accurate patches, further OnlyFangs casualties are anticipated as new dungeons and raids become available.
