Capcom Unveils Onimusha: Way of the Sword Gameplay Featuring Miyamoto Musashi
Capcom recently showcased new gameplay footage for its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The reveal, part of the PlayStation State of Play event, introduced the game's protagonist: the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi.
The trailer highlighted the game's dynamic sword combat and impressive boss encounters. While still over two years away, the visuals and action sequences are already generating significant buzz.
The game will feature Musashi's renowned swordsmanship, but also promises a glimpse into his mischievous and humorous side.
According to Capcom's press release, Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a dark fantasy action game starring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on the legendary Toshiro Mifune, a renowned actor known for his portrayal of Musashi in various samurai films.
The game's setting is a demon-infested Kyoto, under siege by the malevolent force known as Malic, which is summoning hellish creatures into Japan. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in two decades. To build anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
