Nvidia RTX 5060 Launched: Should You Wait?

Author : Samuel Update : May 22,2025

Nvidia unveiled the RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti in April 2025, and now, the more budget-friendly RTX 5060 is hitting the market following its announcement at Computex. Priced at a starting point of $299, this GPU boasts 3,840 CUDA cores spread across 30 Streaming Multiprocessors, making it well-suited for 1080p gaming. Nvidia asserts that the RTX 5060 delivers exceptional performance at this resolution, claiming it can achieve 223 fps in Doom: The Dark Ages at 1080p with maximum settings and 4x multi-frame generation enabled.

The standout feature of this generation's graphics cards is Nvidia's push for Multi-Frame Generation, and the RTX 5060, despite being the most affordable option, fully supports this technology along with the entire DLSS 4 suite. However, with only 30 SMs, there are limitations to what DLSS can achieve.

It's important to note that while the RTX 5060 starts at $299, higher-priced models with additional features like factory overclocking and RGB lighting will also be available.

Reviews Are Coming... Later

Although the RTX 5060 is positioned as an affordable option, it's wise to hold off on purchasing until independent reviews are available. Nvidia's performance claims are impressive but rely on Multi-Frame Generation, and real-world performance without early drivers for press testing remains to be seen.

Unfortunately, initial reviews will be delayed as Nvidia isn't providing early drivers to reviewers, meaning the first week or so of the RTX 5060's release will be without comprehensive reviews. While the RTX 5060 should perform well at 1080p, the broader Blackwell lineup has shown limited generational improvements.

Nvidia suggests the RTX 5060 could offer double the performance of the RTX 4060 with frame generation enabled, but only about a 20% increase in games without ray tracing or frame generation, which is likely the best-case scenario.

As always, it's advisable to wait for detailed reviews before making a purchase to ensure you're getting the best value for your money. These reviews are on their way, though they may take a few days to appear.
