Nintendo Switch 2 Release Date Rumored Leak
Nintendo Switch 2: Official Reveal Expected on January 16th
Reliable sources indicate the Nintendo Switch 2 will be officially unveiled on Thursday, January 16th, 2025. This early 2025 announcement strongly suggests a first-half 2025 release. The timing echoes the original Switch reveal, which also occurred on a Thursday in 2016.
The Switch 2's existence has been widely speculated. Reports suggest mass production began as early as September or October 2024, corroborated by numerous hardware leaks. Nintendo itself previously committed to an announcement before March 31st, 2025.
NateTheHate, a reputable leaker, confirmed the January 16th reveal date on his podcast, citing undisclosed sources. This aligns with Nintendo's history of using Thursdays for major announcements. Tom Warren of The Verge independently corroborated this information.
Extensive Leaks Precede Official Announcement
While the official announcement is imminent, the Switch 2 has already been extensively leaked. The sheer volume of unofficial information, including Nintendo's rare acknowledgement of a replica console, suggests little will be surprising to dedicated fans. A pre-announcement teaser on social media, similar to the original Switch's rollout, remains a possibility.
Rumored specifications include a slightly larger form factor (270 x 116 x 14mm) than the Switch OLED model, an 8-inch LCD screen, and magnetically attaching Joy-Cons. The right Joy-Con is said to feature an additional "C" button, its purpose potentially linked to a rumored mouse-like pointer function.
Launch Title Lineup Remains Unclear
Unlike the hardware details, the Switch 2's launch game lineup remains largely unknown. While titles like My Time at Evershine and Bestiario are confirmed, neither is anticipated as a day-one release, assuming a first-half 2025 launch. Nintendo is likely to include at least one or two major first-party titles to drive initial sales.
