Nintendo Switch 2 Preorders Begin in UK on Amazon

Author : Amelia Update : May 21,2025

Amazon UK has now opened preorders for the eagerly awaited Nintendo Switch 2 to everyone, moving away from its previous invite-only system. You can secure your preorder today with the assurance that Amazon won't charge your card until the console ships, offering a low-risk way to guarantee your purchase. While some early estimates suggested a June 7th delivery, Amazon support has confirmed this was a mistake; the plan is still for a launch day delivery on June 5th.

In contrast to the US, where preorders have been delayed due to tariff uncertainties, the UK preorders are proceeding smoothly with no reported price hikes or delays. Interestingly, some US users have successfully preordered from the UK using international shipping, though results may vary. Argos has restocked Switch 2 preorders in the UK today, April 8, including the console, games, and accessories. If you missed out previously, this is your chance to secure one without hassle.

Nintendo's official UK preorders also started today, with retailers like EE, GAME, and Smyths experiencing rapid sell-outs, leading to scalpers listing the console at inflated prices on eBay. Currently, Amazon and Argos are the most reliable options for securing a Switch 2 in the UK.

In IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 preview, Logan Plant noted, "Switch 2 is a more premium product, and the price reflects that. It's also a better version of a great thing, introducing exciting new features like mouse controls. We're both eager to buy it on day one, and our hands-on time was fantastic. However, I have concerns about whether the general public will embrace a $450 Nintendo console, especially with an $80 Mario Kart."

"It's a significant investment for a company traditionally focused on families and younger players, and the high entry cost might limit the Switch 2's potential to match its predecessor's success. Yet, for those willing to invest, the Switch 2 promises to be a remarkable hybrid console with substantial improvements and fun additions."

One of the Switch 2's standout features is the exclusive GameCube games available through its online library. UK retailer ShopTo is currently offering a 35% discount on Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) Expansion Pack memberships, with an additional 5% off using the code SPRING at checkout. As you secure your Switch 2 preorders, this deal is an excellent opportunity to enhance your gaming experience.

While some Nintendo classics are available with the base online subscription, you'll need the Expansion Pack to access GameCube titles. The Expansion Pack is only available on a 12-month plan. Individual Online + Expansion Pack plans are available for £24.55, or you can opt for the Family Membership at £43.55 with the promo code SPRING.

In a surprising move, Nintendo has postponed the start of Switch 2 preorders in the United States, just days before they were due to begin. This decision is linked to ongoing tariff concerns and "evolving market conditions," a reference to the potential reinstatement of Trump-era import duties on electronics.

Preorders in the US were originally set to start on April 9, but Nintendo has indefinitely delayed them. No new date has been announced, but the company has confirmed that the Switch 2’s global release date—June 5, 2025—remains unchanged.

Nintendo's official statement to IGN reads: "Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025, to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, is unchanged.”

This preorder freeze is exclusive to the US market. UK preorders continue without changes to pricing or availability, with retailers like Amazon UK actively sending out preorder invitations as launch-day stock begins to dwindle.

Nintendo has set the Switch 2's price at $449.99 USD, while the Mario Kart World bundle, which includes the full game, is priced at $499.99 USD. Mario Kart World will also be available separately for $79.99 USD.

PlaySwitch 2 UK Preorder News -------------------------

For those hesitant to pay upfront, Amazon remains the best option in the UK. While retailers like Argos require immediate payment, Amazon delays charges until dispatch, making it a safer choice for budget-conscious buyers. Amazon's invite system operates on a ballot, offering a fair chance to everyone, regardless of gaming history or membership status.

For preorders at the Nintendo Store, access is restricted to long-time Nintendo Switch Online subscribers with significant playtimes and shared usage data. In contrast, Amazon's system is more accessible. Currys and Smyths are also expected to offer preorder opportunities through email alerts and queue systems, similar to their successful PS5 launch approach. This method may involve longer waits, but it's less frustrating for those who don't meet Nintendo's strict criteria.
