Nintendo Reveals Pricey Upgrades for Switch 2 Games

Nintendo has recently disclosed the pricing for upgrading two popular titles from the original Nintendo Switch to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. The cost of these upgrades is notably higher than expected.

While The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom can be upgraded for $9.99 each, NintendoLife has reported that the upgrades for both Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are priced at more than double this amount.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild offers improved visuals and performance, achievements, and the new "Zelda Notes" service within the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Switch version of Breath of the Wild can purchase an "upgrade pack" for $10 to access these enhancements.

The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduces new story content titled "Star-Crossed World." Meanwhile, the Switch 2 Edition of Super Mario Party Jamboree includes a new feature, "Jamboree TV," which utilizes the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and the Switch 2 USB-C camera (sold separately). This edition also boasts upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online functionalities.

Although U.S. prices on the American Nintendo eShop are not yet available, possibly due to uncertainties with President Trump's tariffs, the UK Nintendo eShop lists the upgrade for Kirby and the Forgotten Land at £16.99 / €19.99, which is more than double the £7.99 / €9.99 charged for upgrading Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. The same price applies to the Super Mario Party Jamboree upgrade, suggesting a potential U.S. price of $19.99.

The higher upgrade costs may be influenced by the $80 price tag for both Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV. In contrast, the original Switch versions of these games are priced at $59.99 each.

For those not upgrading, here are the prices of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games in the U.S.:

It's worth noting that the upgrade packs for both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are available at no additional cost to Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers. However, no such offer exists for upgrading Kirby or Party Jamboree.
