Nintendo Comments on Latest Switch 2 Leak
Nintendo Responds to Switch 2 Leaks from CES 2025
Nintendo has issued an uncommon statement regarding the recent flurry of Switch 2 leaks stemming from CES 2025. The company officially declared that images circulating online are not official Nintendo materials. While this might seem self-evident, it’s noteworthy for being one of the few times Nintendo has publicly addressed product leaks.
The upcoming Switch 2 has been the subject of numerous leaks since late 2024, coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. Accessory manufacturer Genki displayed a purported Switch 2 replica at CES 2025, sparking immediate online discussion.
In response to inquiries from the Sankei Shimbun, Nintendo confirmed the images and videos of Genki's replica are unofficial. A representative emphasized Nintendo's non-participation in CES 2025, further solidifying the unofficial nature of the leaked materials.
Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?
While Nintendo didn't comment on the accuracy of Genki's replica, its design aligns with existing leaks and rumors. The most significant difference from the original Switch is the inclusion of an extra button, labeled "C," positioned below the right Joy-Con's home button. Its function remains a mystery, even to Genki CEO Eddie Tsai.
Tsai did, however, offer additional insights, claiming the Switch 2 Joy-Cons will use magnetic attachments instead of sliding rails and will function as a mouse—a feature previously suggested by other sources.
Nintendo's previous announcements indicate a Switch 2 reveal sometime before March 31, 2025, leaving approximately 80 days until that deadline. A retail launch isn't expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
