Neil Druckmann Says 'Don't Bet on' There Being a The Last of Us Part 3

For those eagerly awaiting news of The Last of Us Part III, renowned series creator Neil Druckmann has delivered a disheartening update. In a recent interview with Variety, primarily focused on the TV series adaptation, Druckmann effectively dashed hopes of a third game. When questioned about the possibility, he sighed and stated, “I was waiting for this question… I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of ‘Last of Us.’ This could be it.”

While Druckmann's statement is definitive, some may remain unconvinced. Naughty Dog is currently engrossed in the development of Intergalactic, a space-themed title announced at The Game Awards 2022, with no release date yet in sight. This significant project likely occupies the studio's resources for the foreseeable future, making The Last of Us Part III seem improbable in the near term. Druckmann might be employing a strategic level of ambiguity, or perhaps his vision for the franchise has simply concluded. Only time will tell.

However, fans seeking more Last of Us content can still look forward to the second season of the HBO Max series, premiering April 13th. While the exact number of seasons remains uncertain, HBO executives have suggested a potential four-season run to fully adapt the story of Part II.
