Civilization VII VR: A Meta Quest 3 Exclusive

Get ready for a revolutionary way to experience the iconic Civilization franchise! Sid Meier's Civilization VII (Civ VII) will make its VR debut exclusively on Meta Quest 3 and 3S. Announced on February 8, 2025, during the Civ World Summit, this marks the first time the series ventures into virtual and mixed reality.

Dennis Shirk, Executive Franchise Producer at Civ VII, shared his enthusiasm in a 2K Games blog post: "We're just days away now from the full launch of Civilization VII and look forward to ushering in a new era of strategy excellence for our fans!"

Chris Pruett, Meta's Director of Games, echoed this excitement: "With the recent release of Meta Quest 3S and our strongest games and entertainment portfolio yet, it’s an awesome time for mixed reality. Civilization VII - VR is further evidence of that momentum: it’s a genuine Civ experience made specifically for deep strategy fans."

Note that while Civ VII is launching on PlayStation consoles, a PSVR2 release is not currently planned.

Immersive Gameplay: A Board Game Brought to Life

Enjoy the game in either immersive VR or mixed reality, seamlessly switching between modes. 2K Games describes the experience: "In virtual reality, players are transported to an ornate museum as they look out onto a vista personalized to their leader; in mixed reality, the Command Table adapts to its placement in a player's physical space."

Engage in single-player campaigns, team up in co-op, or challenge friends in competitive multiplayer. Up to four players can join a game using Meta Quest 3 or 3S headsets, facing off against AI opponents or other human players. See your friends and rivals in VR/MR as your chosen world leader. Online multiplayer requires a 2K and Meta account.

Responding to Player Feedback

Firaxis Games is actively addressing player feedback from Civ VII's early access period. Their official Twitter (X) account announced ongoing efforts to improve the game based on community input. Early access began February 6, 2025, for Deluxe and Founder's Edition owners. Steam reviews highlighted UI issues, impacting players' ability to access crucial information.

Firaxis has outlined key priorities for future updates, including significant UI improvements focusing on intuitive interactions, enhanced map readability, and overall polish. Community-requested features like multiplayer teams and diverse map types are also under consideration. A quality-of-life update in March will address UI adjustments, AI balance, diplomacy, and bug fixes.

Civilization VII VR is slated for release this Spring 2025 on Meta Quest 3 and 3S, with a specific date yet to be announced. Meanwhile, Civilization VII launches worldwide on February 11, 2025, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.
