Marvel Comics Announces New Star Wars Series Launching May 2025

Get ready for a new chapter in the Star Wars saga! Marvel Comics will relaunch its flagship Star Wars series in May 2025, picking up after the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War. The story follows Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa as they work to establish the New Republic and bring order to a galaxy still reeling from conflict.

Written by Alex Segura (Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku), the series will be illustrated by Star Wars veteran Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron), with Noto and Leinil Yu contributing cover art for the first issue.

Set approximately two years after Return of the Jedi, the comic explores the challenges facing the fledgling New Republic. While hope abounds, opportunistic criminals and emerging threats exploit the power vacuum, creating fresh obstacles for Luke and his allies.

"We've reached the end of the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku," Segura explained to StarWars.com, "allowing us to jump into a new, uncharted era filled with galactic threats, enemies, and mysteries. We'll blend familiar elements with the new and unexpected, delivering action-packed stories and character moments fans expect, while ensuring accessibility for new readers."

Noto added, "It's exciting to depict the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era, creating new visual interpretations without relying on existing film or TV portrayals. I'm drawing inspiration from the original actors while developing fresh looks for this specific timeline."

Star Wars #1 hits shelves on May 7, 2025, coinciding with Star Wars Day celebrations.
