Marvel and Robert Downey Jr. Hint at More Avengers: Doomsday Cast Reveals
Following the exciting announcement of an additional 26 cast members for the eagerly awaited Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel and Robert Downey Jr. have hinted that the cast reveal is far from over. During a recent livestream, Marvel unveiled the star-studded lineup set to join Robert Downey Jr. in this superhero epic, marking the official start of production.

However, eagle-eyed fans quickly noticed the absence of some major Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) stars. Tom Holland's Spider-Man and Chris Evans, who was rumored to return as Captain America, are notably missing from the announced cast. Evans himself denied these rumors later on. Additionally, characters such as Hulk, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, and Rhodey from the MCU, as well as key X-Men like Deadpool, Wolverine, Storm, and Jean Grey, were not included in the initial lineup.
Despite the absence of these fan-favorite heroes, there's still hope for their inclusion. In a follow-up Instagram post, Robert Downey Jr., who is set to take on the role of Doctor Doom after his iconic portrayal of Iron Man, hinted at further announcements. He teased, "That’s what u call a deep bench of talent. Actually it’s more like a row, but an extra long one… That must be it.. right?"

Marvel responded to Downey's post in the comments, suggesting "there's always room for more." The Russo Brothers, directors of Avengers: Doomsday, further fueled the anticipation by adding, "It’s time…"

In a recent statement, the Russo brothers described Avengers 5 and 6 as a "new beginning" that will set the stage for Phase 7 of the MCU. Joe Russo elaborated, "The only thing I’ll say about the movie is this: we love villains who think they’re the heroes of their own stories. That’s when they become three-dimensional and they become more interesting. When you have an actor like Robert Downey, you have to create a three-dimensional, well-shaped character for the audience. That’s where a lot of our focus is going."
Avengers: Doomsday is slated for a theatrical release on May 1, 2026, followed by Secret Wars in May 2027. Leading up to these films, fans can look forward to Thunderbolts* in May 2025, the TV series Ironheart in June, and the kickoff of Phase 6 with The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July.
Additionally, Marvel Studios has added three untitled movie projects to its 2028 release schedule: February 18, 2028; May 5, 2028; and November 10, 2028. Speculation is rife that one of these could be the long-awaited X-Men film.
