Marvel Rivals Rank Reset Mid-Season Proves Too Controversial, Prompting Reversal

Marvel Rivals has reversed its decision on mid-season player rank resets following significant player feedback. Read on to learn more about the changes and upcoming developments.

Marvel Rivals Reverses Mid-Season Rank Reset Plan

Dev Talk 11: Seasonal Rank Adjustments Revised

Marvel Rivals has retracted its previous plan for mid-season rank resets, announced in Dev Talk 10, after a wave of player complaints. The initial plan, detailed in Dev Talk 10, would have seen players dropping four divisions mid-season, a move deemed discouraging by many players aiming for higher ranks, especially given the proposed 45-day (half-season) reset frequency.

Dev Talk 11 now confirms that there will be no mid-season rank reset. Players will retain their end-of-first-half-season ranks and scores. However, the end-of-season rank reset remains, with players dropping six divisions at the conclusion of the full season.

Human Torch, The Thing, and Other Updates Remain on Track

Despite the reversal on the mid-season reset, other updates are proceeding as planned. The release of new heroes Human Torch and The Thing is still on schedule, expanding the roster to 39 heroes. NetEase Games' previous commitment to releasing two new playable characters per three-month season remains in effect.

Rewards for players reaching Gold rank and above also remain unchanged. Players achieving Gold rank will receive a free Invisible Woman costume, while Grandmaster and above will receive Crests of Honor. Additional rewards, including another free costume and Crests of Honor (for Grandmaster and above), will be awarded at the end of the season. Balance adjustments are also planned post-mid-season update, though specifics are yet to be announced.

Responding to Community Feedback

The team emphasized their commitment to community input, stating, "We strive to make Marvel Rivals the best game it can be, and the community is the driving force behind this mission! [...] Your engagement and support mean the world to us, and we're excited to continue this journey together!"
