Lunar Remastered Collection: Release Date Revealed

The eagerly awaited Lunar Remastered Collection is set to launch on April 18, bringing the beloved JRPG classics to modern gamers. Developed by Game Arts and published by GungHo Online Entertainment, this duology collection will be available on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam, with support for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Fans can look forward to diving into the first two Lunar games, Lunar: The Silver Star and Lunar: Eternal Blue, with updated graphics, re-recorded soundtracks, and a host of quality-of-life improvements.

The announcement came as a delightful surprise during a Sony State of Play in 2024, reigniting the passion of JRPG enthusiasts who fondly remember the series' debut in 1992 on the Sega CD. The subsequent sequel, Lunar: Eternal Blue, followed in 1994, and both games were later remade for the PlayStation and Sega Saturn under the titles Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete. These titles are still celebrated as some of the finest RPGs on the Sega Saturn, making the remastered collection a thrilling prospect for fans and newcomers alike.

GungHo Online Entertainment has confirmed that the Lunar Remastered Collection will be available in physical editions in select stores across North America and Europe. The remaster promises a blend of nostalgia and modern enhancements, including widescreen support, revamped pixel art, and high-definition cutscenes. For those who prefer a more authentic experience, a classic mode will be available to simulate the PS1-era graphics at any time.

In addition to visual upgrades, the collection will feature fully voiced dialogue in both Japanese and English, with newly added French and German subtitles. Gameplay enhancements include a speed-up command for combat and new strategies for auto-battle, aligning with the trend of modernizing classic JRPGs. Such features have become standard in remasters, as seen in titles like the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake and the upcoming Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster, which also include combat speed adjustments.

The Lunar series joins the growing list of classic JRPGs being revitalized for contemporary audiences. While the financial success of the Lunar Remastered Collection remains to be seen, the previous collaboration between Game Arts and GungHo Online Entertainment on the Grandia HD Collection suggests a positive outlook. This new venture aims to capture the hearts of both nostalgic fans and a new generation of gamers eager to explore the rich world of Lunar.
