The popular MMO Second Life is launching its public beta on iOS and Android. Premium subscribers can access it now. However, free access for other players hasn't been announced.

Access requires a Premium account. This might disappoint those hoping for a free trial, but the beta should increase the flow of information about the mobile version.

For those unfamiliar with Second Life, it's a pioneering MMO that predates the current metaverse hype. Instead of combat or exploration, it emphasizes social interaction and user-created content. Players create avatars and live a "Second Life" within the game's virtual world. Launched in 2003, it introduced many concepts now common in social gaming.
