Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Won't Have Denuvo DRM
Warhorse Studios confirms: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2), the anticipated medieval RPG, will launch completely DRM-free. This announcement directly contradicts earlier rumors suggesting otherwise.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2: No DRM, Period
Dismissing DRM Rumors
Following persistent speculation about the inclusion of DRM, Warhorse Studios' PR head, Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, definitively stated during a recent Twitch stream that KCD2 will not utilize any DRM system, including Denuvo. He attributed the confusion to misinformation and urged players to cease inquiries about DRM. Stolz-Zwilling emphasized that any information contradicting this official statement is inaccurate.
"KCD 2 will not have Denuvo, or any DRM at all," Stolz-Zwilling clarified. "We never confirmed otherwise. There were discussions, some misalignment, and misinformation, but ultimately, there will be no Denuvo."
He further appealed to fans: "Please, let's close this case. Stop asking about Denuvo in every post. Unless Warhorse makes an announcement, anything else you hear is untrue."
The absence of DRM addresses player concerns regarding potential performance impacts and negative experiences often associated with DRM tools, particularly Denuvo, which, while also functioning as anti-piracy software, has faced criticism for impacting gameplay. Denuvo's product manager, Andreas Ullmann, has acknowledged this negative perception, attributing it to misinformation and confirmation bias.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is set for release in February 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game, set in medieval Bohemia, follows Henry, a blacksmith apprentice whose village is devastated by tragedy. Players who contributed at least $200 to the KCD2 Kickstarter campaign will receive a free copy.
