KartRider: Drift to Shut Down Globally
Nexon has announced the global shutdown of KartRider: Drift, the mobile, console, and PC racing game launched in January 2023. The closure impacts all global platforms, but notably excludes the Asian (Taiwan and South Korea) servers. While Nexon plans updates for the Asian versions, the specifics remain undisclosed, as does any potential future relaunch of the global version. The exact shutdown date for the global servers is yet to be revealed, though the game remains currently available on the Google Play Store.
Reasons for Global Shutdown:
Despite efforts to provide a seamless global experience, KartRider: Drift faced significant challenges. Player feedback highlighted frustration with excessive automation, leading to repetitive gameplay. Further compounding issues were optimization problems on certain Android devices and persistent bugs. These factors ultimately led Nexon to reassess their global strategy, resulting in the shutdown decision. The company plans to refocus development on the PC version in Korea and Taiwan, aiming to revitalize the game's original concept.
