Excitement is building as DC's next major cinematic venture, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, has officially started filming. To mark this significant milestone, DC Studios head James Gunn took to Bluesky to share the first glimpse of Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. The photo captures Alcock in her actor's chair, signaling the start of production.

Gunn expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Thrilled to see camera roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El." This confirms that Gillespie, known for directing Cruella and I, Tonya, is directing the film, as previously announced in April.

While specific plot details remain under wraps, it's known that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow draws significant inspiration from the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Nogueira. This acclaimed comic follows a standalone narrative where an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. The graphic novel was nominated for "Best Limited Series" at the 2022 Eisner Awards and is highly recommended for fans.

The film's cast boasts an impressive lineup, with Matthias Schoenaerts set to portray Krem, and Eve Ridley taking on the role of Ruthye. Additionally, David Krumholtz will play Supergirl's father Zor-El, Emily Beecham will portray her mother, and Jason Momoa will be recast in the DC universe as Lobo.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is slated to be the second film in the newly revamped DC universe, following James Gunn's Superman, which is set to hit theaters this summer. Other projects in development include The Batman Part II, which may or may not be part of Gunn's overarching movie-verse, and a reported Clayface movie directed by Mike Flanagan.
