James Gunn Confirms 'Absolutely Zero CG' in Superman’s Flying Face After TV Spot Raises Eyebrows

DC Studios co-chief James Gunn addresses online criticism regarding Superman's facial expression during a flight sequence in a recently released TV spot.

A new 30-second promotional video showcased scenes of Lex Luthor near the Fortress of Solitude and Superman performing a barrel roll during flight. The latter shot sparked debate, with some viewers commenting on Superman's seemingly unnatural facial stillness amidst the wind-blown hair and cape. Speculation ranged from poor CGI to other technical issues.

However, Gunn took to Threads to clarify that the shot contains "absolutely zero CG in his face." He attributed the perceived anomaly to the use of a wide-angle lens at close range, emphasizing that both the Svalbard, Norway location and David Corenswet's performance were entirely practical.

Despite Gunn's explanation, the discussion continues, with some comparing the shot to a similar scene featuring Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Regardless of the debate, anticipation for the Superman film remains high. The movie, the first installment in the DCU's "Gods and Monsters" chapter, is slated for release on July 11, 2025. Further information is available on IGN, including details on the film's characters, James Gunn's comments on Krypto, the film's thematic focus on hope, and other related news.
