GTA 6 PC Release Hinted To Come At A Later Date

The buzz around Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) is electric, and while a PC release remains unconfirmed, recent comments from Take-Two Interactive's CEO Strauss Zelnick suggest that a PC version could be on the horizon. Dive into the details to understand GTA 6's development and what the future might hold.

GTA 6 on PC Unconfirmed, But Take-Two Shows Interest

Although Grand Theft Auto 6 hasn't been officially announced for PC yet, hints from Take-Two's leadership indicate that it might eventually make its way to the platform. During an interview with IGN on February 10, 2025, Zelnick discussed the release strategies for their games. He noted that while Civilization 7 would launch simultaneously on console and PC, other titles often follow a staggered approach.

Zelnick highlighted Rockstar's historical release patterns, saying, "Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms." This pattern was evident with GTA 5, which debuted on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014, and finally on PC in April 2015. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018 before reaching PC in November 2019.

While not a definitive confirmation, Zelnick's remarks suggest that a PC version of GTA 6 is on Take-Two's radar. Fans had hoped for a simultaneous launch across all platforms, but it seems the tradition of delayed PC releases might continue.

Take-Two Confident About GTA 6 Sales Across All Platforms

Zelnick also emphasized the growing significance of the PC market, revealing that PC sales can account for up to 40% of a multiplatform game's total revenue. He stated, "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue."

Despite declining sales of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Zelnick remains optimistic about GTA 6's performance across all platforms. He believes the game will not only perform well but also boost console sales for Sony and Xbox. "When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles," he said.

Looking forward to 2025, Zelnick anticipates a surge in console sales due to the release schedule of major titles, including GTA 6. He commented, "And I think that will happen this year. I don't think tariffs are going to be our friend, but I think there will be a meaningful uptick in console sales in calendar 25 because of the release schedule, not just coming from us, but coming from others. So I'm not concerned about that [console sales falling]. I think the trend that you'd want to focus on is this increasing share of the market that is reflected in PC."

GTA 6 is slated for a Fall 2025 release, though no specific date has been announced yet. Stay updated with the latest news on our Grand Theft Auto 6 page.

During the Take-Two Interactive Q3 Fiscal Conference Call on February 6, 2025, Zelnick shared their interest in expanding their game lineup to the upcoming Switch 2 console. He remarked, "We've had obviously a long-standing relationship with Nintendo, and we've supported the platform when it made sense for the individual release."

The gaming landscape has evolved, with Nintendo's audience now encompassing a broader demographic. Zelnick noted, "the Switch device can support any audience." With Civilization 7 set to launch on the Switch, he added, "So while we have nothing specific to report, we actually would fully expect to support Switch."
