"GTA 5 Enhanced Edition Now Worst Reviewed on Steam"
Rockstar's latest release, Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced, which hit Steam on March 4, has not been well-received by the gaming community, earning a 'mixed' user review rating. Only 54% of the 19,772 user reviews have been flagged as positive, a stark contrast to the 'very positive' rating of the original GTA 5 on Steam, which is no longer listed at Rockstar's request. Interestingly, GTA 5 Enhanced has the lowest user review rating among all GTA titles on Steam, with Grand Theft Auto III – The Definitive Edition coming in second with 66% positive reviews.
This new version of GTA 5, offered as a free upgrade for PC users, brings features previously exclusive to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S versions of GTA Online. These include new vehicles and performance upgrades at Hao’s Special Works, animal encounters, and the option to purchase a GTA+ Membership, along with enhanced graphics and faster load times. Current GTA 5 PC owners can upgrade for free and transfer their Story Mode and Online progress.
However, the upgrade process has been marred by significant issues, particularly with account migration, which seems to be the root cause of many negative reviews. Players have reported receiving messages that their GTA Online profiles are not eligible for migration, leading to frustration and dissatisfaction. Some reviews even suggest that players are unwilling to restart their progress just for the new features and graphics.
Despite these challenges, GTA 5 Enhanced remains popular on Steam, with a peak concurrent player count of 187,059 since its launch. Yet, the troubled rollout has raised concerns among PC gamers about the future release of Grand Theft Auto 6, especially since it is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S in the fall of 2025, with no confirmed PC release date. This delay has sparked discussions, with a former Rockstar developer urging PC gamers to be patient and trust the studio's plans.
In related news, Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company, has taken legal action against PlayerAuctions for allegedly selling unauthorized GTA 5 content. Additionally, Rockstar has recently acquired Video Games Deluxe, the developer behind Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, and rebranded it as Rockstar Australia.
