PlayStation Productions at CES 2025: A Wave of Game Adaptations

At CES 2025, PlayStation Productions made a splash, announcing several new game adaptations slated for release in 2025 and beyond. The announcements included anime series, movies, and a new season of a popular show.

Major Announcements:

• Ghost of Tsushima: Legends Anime: A new anime series based on Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, produced by Crunchyroll and Aniplex, is set to premiere exclusively on Crunchyroll in 2027. Takanobu Mizumo will direct, with Gen Urobuchi handling story composition, and Sony Music providing the soundtrack.

• Horizon Zero Dawn and Helldivers 2 Films: Movie adaptations of Horizon Zero Dawn (produced by Sony Pictures) and Helldivers 2 (produced by Columbia Pictures) are in development. Details remain scarce.

• Until Dawn Film: A film adaptation of Until Dawn is scheduled for release on April 25, 2025.

• The Last of Us Season Two: Neil Druckmann unveiled a new trailer for The Last of Us season two, which will adapt the storyline from The Last of Us Part II, introducing characters like Abby and Dina.

Past Successes and Future Projects:

PlayStation Productions' previous adaptations, including Uncharted (2022) and Gran Turismo (2023), achieved box office success. The Twisted Metal series (Peacock, 2023) also completed its second season in late 2024, though a release date is pending.

Beyond the CES 2025 announcements, PlayStation Productions is also working on film adaptations of Days Gone and a sequel to Uncharted, as well as a God of War TV series.

The continued success and expansion of PlayStation Productions suggest that more popular PlayStation game franchises will likely be adapted into films and television shows in the future.
