The CEO of Genki, Eddie Tsai, has provided intriguing new details about the Nintendo Switch 2, confirming several rumors that have been circulating. At CES 2025, Genki, known for their innovative handheld gaming gadgets like the PocketPro, unveiled a 3D-printed mockup of the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. This mockup, crafted based on a Switch 2 allegedly purchased on the black market, allowed attendees to get a hands-on feel of what's to come.

The mockup showcased a larger form factor, bringing the Switch 2 closer in size to Valve’s Steam Deck. Notable features included magnetic Joy-Con, a second USB-C port, and a mysterious new button labeled “C.” In an interview with The Verge, Tsai elaborated on these features. He confirmed that the Joy-Con on the new console are indeed magnetic, with the SL and SR buttons facilitating this new attachment method. A large button on each Joy-Con pushes out a pin, releasing the magnetic hold with the console's chassis, yet maintaining a secure feel during gameplay.

Genki Shares Additional Details About the Switch 2

Further insights from Tsai shed light on other aspects of the Switch 2. The Joy-Con's "mounting channel" now includes an optical sensor, hinting at potential new uses such as functioning like a mouse with the right attachment. This feature aligns with recent leaks showing optical sensors on the new Joy-Con.

Despite its increased dimensions, the Switch 2 remains slim enough to fit into the current Nintendo Switch dock. However, specific indentations on the new console will prevent it from being compatible with the existing dock. The purpose of the “C” button and the additional USB-C port remains a mystery, even to Genki.
