The highly anticipated Gears of War: Reloaded has officially announced its release date, marking a historic moment for the franchise as it launches simultaneously on PS5 and Xbox. Gears of War: Reloaded Release Date Announced
Multiplatform Release
For over a decade, Gears of War has stood as a flagship Xbox exclusive, deeply rooted in the identity of Microsoft’s console ecosystem. However, on May 6, Xbox made a groundbreaking announcement via X (formerly Twitter): Gears of War: Reloaded will launch on August 26, 2025, across all platforms—including PS5—on the same day.
This move aligns with Xbox’s evolving philosophy of prioritizing player access over platform exclusivity. In a January interview with GamerTag Radio, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer emphasized this vision: "We love our platform and our hardware, but we're not going to put walls up where people can engage with the great games our studios are building."
While no official word has been given yet, this strategy could set a precedent for future titles in the series—potentially including the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day. Fans are watching closely to see if this signals a broader shift in how Xbox handles its iconic IPs.
Faithful Remaster, Built for the Future
The announcement of Gears of War: Reloaded caught many by surprise, especially given the existence of the 2015 Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. However, in a detailed post on Xbox Wire on May 5, The Coalition’s Studio Head Mike Crump explained the reasoning behind this new release.
"As we approach the 20th anniversary of Gears of War in 2026, we’re reflecting on what this franchise means," Crump shared. "It’s about the stories we’ve told, the friendships we’ve built, and the unforgettable moments we’ve shared together. With Gears of War: Reloaded, we’re opening that door to more players than ever."
Technologically, Reloaded represents a significant leap forward. While the 2015 Ultimate Edition ran at 1080p/30fps in campaign and 60fps in multiplayer, the new version delivers 4K resolution at 60fps in campaign and a buttery-smooth 120fps in multiplayer modes. The upgrade includes native 4K assets, remastered textures, enhanced post-processing effects, improved shadows and reflections, and full HDR support—making it the definitive way to experience the original campaign.
Additionally, all post-launch downloadable content will be included at no extra cost: the bonus campaign act, every multiplayer map and mode, and a complete roster of classic characters and cosmetics unlockable through progression.
Owners of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on Xbox will receive Reloaded as a free upgrade. Eligible users will be sent a redemption code via direct message on Xbox before launch.
Gears of War: Reloaded launches August 26, 2025, priced at $39.99 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. The game will be available day one with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
