GameCube Fans Excited by New Nintendo Filings for Switch 2
The recent buzz among Nintendo enthusiasts stems from new filings that hint at the possibility of a GameCube controller designed for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. These filings, as reported by Nintendo Life, reveal a "game controller" intended for use with the Switch 2, sparking speculation that it could be a wireless Bluetooth GameCube controller. The internet community, particularly on Famiboards, has delved into the details, noting that one image in the filing shows a label placement that mirrors the back of a GameCube controller, specifically behind the C-Stick.
Although it's possible that this could be a new Switch 2 Pro Controller, current speculation leans towards its integration with Nintendo's Switch Online subscription service. This service already offers wireless classic controllers for retro gaming, and fans are hopeful this could extend to a library of GameCube classics on the Nintendo Switch Online platform. While Nintendo has so far focused on re-releasing games from the NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy, the addition of GameCube titles on the Switch 2 could fulfill long-standing fan wishes.
Nintendo Consoles
The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially unveiled in January with a trailer that highlighted features such as backwards compatibility and the addition of a second USB-C port. However, many details, including the function of a mysterious new Joy-Con button and the potential for a Joy-Con mouse, were not disclosed. Last month, a Nintendo patent suggested that the Switch 2's Joy-Con controllers could be attached upside down, using magnets instead of rails, which could offer players more flexibility in button placement and potentially introduce new gameplay mechanics.

Analysts predict that the Switch 2 might be priced around $400, with some suggesting it could reach up to $500. June has been floated as a potential release month. While much remains unknown, Nintendo has scheduled a Direct for April 2 to reveal more about the console. In the meantime, fans can enjoy a taste of GameCube nostalgia with Metroid Prime Remastered on the current Nintendo Switch.
