Back to the Future Fans Wanting a Fourth Film? 'F**k You,' Says Co-Creator
Bob Gale, co-creator of the iconic Back to the Future trilogy, delivered a blunt message to fans yearning for a fourth installment: "F*** you."
In a recent interview with Yahoo, Gale, alongside Robert Zemeckis, emphatically stated that there are absolutely no plans for a continuation of the beloved science fiction franchise. Responding to persistent inquiries about a Back to the Future 4, Gale's response, given backstage at the Saturn Awards, was a definitive "And we say, ‘F*** you.'"
This stance stands in contrast to the prevalent trend of reboots and sequels in Hollywood, many of which have been met with less-than-stellar reception (e.g., The Matrix Resurrections, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny). Ironically, Back to the Future, despite its enduring legacy and cultural impact, will seemingly remain firmly entrenched in the past.
The original 1985 film, featuring time-traveling high school student Marty McFly and the eccentric Doc Brown, achieved legendary status. However, its sequels, released in 1989 and 1990, received comparatively less enthusiastic reviews.
Despite the franchise's absence from the big screen for over three decades, its influence persists. Beyond its cultural impact, Back to the Future continues to thrive through a Broadway musical. Gale also revealed plans for a stage production destined for Royal Caribbean Cruises and hinted at collaborating with Michael J. Fox on a book detailing the actor's experiences with the franchise.
