Fortnite Retreats on Skin Controversy
The iconic Master Chief, the face (albeit masked) of the Halo franchise, is a highly sought-after skin in Fortnite. His return to the in-game shop after a two-year hiatus was met with much fanfare, but a controversy quickly arose.
Originally, a special Matte Black style was offered exclusively to players using Xbox Series S|X consoles. For a considerable period, Epic Games advertised this style as permanently obtainable. The abrupt announcement of its removal, therefore, caused significant backlash.
Some disgruntled fans even considered legal action, threatening a class-action lawsuit, believing the change violated terms and conditions. However, a swift reversal followed within 24 hours. Epic Games reinstated the Matte Black style, making it available to all Master Chief skin owners who play a single match on an Xbox Series S|X.
This seems to be the most prudent outcome. Given the festive holiday season, such a contentious move risked souring the celebratory atmosphere.
