Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Director Discusses Mods and DLC Possibilities

The director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Naoki Hamaguchi, recently shared insights into the game's upcoming PC release, addressing player questions about potential DLC and the modding community.

DLC: Fan Demand Decides

While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC version, resource constraints led them to prioritize completing the final installment of the Remake trilogy. Hamaguchi stated that adding new content is not currently planned, but he's receptive to player feedback. Substantial player demand could influence a future decision regarding DLC. "If we receive strong requests from players after the release regarding certain matters, we would like to consider them," he noted.

A Word to Modders: Respect and Responsibility

Hamaguchi also extended a message to the modding community. While the game lacks official mod support, the PC release will undoubtedly attract modders. He emphasized the importance of responsible modding, requesting that creators refrain from producing or distributing offensive or inappropriate content. "We respect the creativity of the modding community and welcome their creations—though we ask modders not to create or install anything offensive or inappropriate," he stated.

PC Version Enhancements

The PC version of FF7 Rebirth boasts several improvements over the PS5 release, including enhanced lighting and texture resolutions, particularly noticeable on high-end systems. Addressing previous criticisms, the team refined lighting rendering to mitigate the "uncanny valley effect" on character faces. The port also presented challenges, notably adapting the numerous mini-games to PC controls.

Release Date and Availability

FF7 Rebirth will launch on Steam and the Epic Games Store on January 23, 2025.
