The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remake Will Reportedly Be Revealed Soon, and Released Not Long After That

Rumors are swirling that Bethesda is poised to announce a remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in the coming weeks, with a release soon after. NatetheHate, a leaker with a proven track record (including correctly predicting the Nintendo Switch 2 announcement date), tweeted that the reveal will happen sometime this month or next. VGC corroborated this information. While the release date is less precise, NatetheHate suggests a pre-June launch, with VGC hinting at a possible April release.

In January, Mp1st reported on what appeared to be leaked details of the Oblivion remake, seemingly accidentally released by a former Virtuos employee. Microsoft declined to comment when contacted by IGN. According to Mp1st, Virtuos used Unreal Engine 5 for the remake, suggesting a substantial overhaul rather than a simple remaster. Alleged gameplay changes include modifications to Stamina, Sneak, Blocking, Archery, hit reactions, and the HUD. Specifically, Blocking was reportedly redesigned for a more action-oriented feel, addressing criticisms of its original design. Sneak icons are said to be more prominent, damage calculations tweaked, and the HUD streamlined for better clarity. Hit reactions were added for improved feedback, and Archery was allegedly modernized for both first-person and third-person perspectives.

Initial whispers of an Oblivion remaster surfaced in 2023 when documents from the FTC vs. Microsoft trial revealed several unannounced Bethesda games slated for release. This July 2020 list, compiled before Microsoft’s acquisition of ZeniMax Media, included:

The Oblivion remaster, however, remains a focus of attention. It's worth noting that the Microsoft document referred to it as a remaster. The project's scope may have expanded into a full-fledged remake. The upcoming announcement will clarify this.

Regarding platform availability, Microsoft's current emphasis on multiplatform releases, coupled with the impending launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, suggests the Oblivion remake could launch on more than just PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. A June Switch 2 launch might coincide with the game's release.
