On January 29, 2025, Pokémon's YouTube channel delighted fans with an animated short celebrating the Lunar New Year and the Year of the Snake. The heartwarming video showcases a playful interaction between two Ekans—one of them a stunning Shiny variant—dangling from a tree. The Shiny Ekans, captivated by its surroundings, accidentally falls onto a passing Arbok and evolves amidst the playful antics of its companions. The newly evolved Shiny Arbok then leads the group out of the forest, leaving a lasting impression on viewers.

This brief yet emotionally resonant video touched many fans. One viewer remarked, "Even though we were able to meet, it’s sad to say goodbye," reflecting on the fleeting connection between the two Ekans. Another fan appreciated the universal theme of friendship, saying that the immediate bond between the two Ekans, despite their different appearances, reminded them of childhood camaraderie.

Moreover, the video stirred nostalgia among fans who recalled their first encounters with Shiny Pokémon. A fan shared, "When I was playing Gold and Silver, the first Pokémon of a different color I encountered was Arbo. For some reason, it ran away from me at the time, and I was unable to catch it, something I still regret. However, I am very happy that we were able to meet again like this!"

In addition to the animated short, The Pokémon Company has prepared a range of events and merchandise for fans to enjoy during this Lunar New Year.
