Dragon Age The Veilguard game director leaves BioWare, players expect studio to shut down

The recent success of Dragon Age: The Veilguard is overshadowed by unsettling news from BioWare. Online rumors, originating from sources described as "agenda fighters," claimed the closure of BioWare Edmonton and the departure of The Veilguard's game director.

Eurogamer journalists corroborate at least part of this information, confirming the departure of Corinne Boucher in the coming weeks. Boucher, an 18-year EA veteran, primarily worked on The Sims franchise.

However, Eurogamer remains uncertain about the alleged closure of BioWare Edmonton, classifying it as mere speculation.

Critical reception of The Veilguard is mixed. While some hail it as a return to form, declaring "old BioWare is back," others praise it as a solid RPG but lacking true greatness. At the time of writing, Metacritic shows no overwhelmingly negative reviews.

Many reviewers highlight the engaging and dynamic action RPG gameplay, particularly challenging at higher difficulty levels. Yet, other outlets, such as VGC, criticize the gameplay as feeling outdated and lacking innovation. The game's reception, therefore, presents a complex picture of a successful but not universally acclaimed title.
