"Disney Lorcana's Ninth Set 'Fabled' Launches September 2025: Features Goofy Movie and Iconic, Epic Cards"
Disney Lorcana has just unveiled a wealth of exciting updates for the future of its trading card game, including the announcement of the ninth set, Fabled, set to launch on September 5, 2025. This set will introduce the first-ever Iconic and Epic cards, along with cards featuring characters from A Goofy Movie. Alongside Fabled, details were shared about the eighth set, Reign of Jafar, which is slated for release on June 6, as well as a new Collection Starter Set and the upcoming Disney Lorcana World Championship. Additionally, there was a tease about the inclusion of Darkwing Duck in future sets.
Let's delve into the specifics to ensure you're fully updated on all the latest developments.
Fabled Will Add Iconic and Epic Cards, A Goofy Movie, and Rotating Cards for Competitive Play
While we eagerly await more details about Fabled, the tantalizing previews from the Disney Lorcana team are making the wait until the pre-release on August 29 and the official release on September 5 all the more exciting.
One of the standout features of Fabled is the introduction of cards from A Goofy Movie, though specific card details remain under wraps. The team did reveal, however, that Mickey and Minnie will debut as the very first Iconic Cards.
Iconic Cards are set to be the rarest in Lorcana, with only two featured in each set. The debut Iconic Cards will showcase Mickey and Minnie on a carousel, making them highly sought after by collectors.
In addition to Iconic Cards, Fabled will introduce Epic Cards. These cards are rarer than Legendary but more accessible than Enchanted and Iconic cards. They will feature unique artwork and foil treatments, with new cards like Elsa (Snow Queen) being highlighted.
A significant change coming with Fabled is the introduction of card rotation, where certain older cards will no longer be legal for use in competitive play, specifically in the Core Constructed format, which excludes cards from the first four sets.

Fans of older cards can rest easy, as there will be multiple ways to continue using them, including a new format called Infinity Constructed. Moreover, Fabled will include reprints of cards from earlier sets, such as Winnie the Pooh (Hunny Wizard), which will remain eligible for competitive play.
Ryan Miller, Brand Manager and Co-Designer of Disney Lorcana TCG at Ravensburger, commented, “To keep the competitive game thriving, rotating out older cards to encourage new strategies and fresh deck designs is a really important part of the next chapter. But because we know there are cards in those early sets that are important to a lot of fans’ deck-building strategies, and we know not everybody got the cards they wanted the first year, we’re re-printing some cards from those first sets in Fabled. Including Enchanted versions of some fan favorites!”
For newcomers to Lorcana, the team has introduced the Collection Starter Set to help you dive into the game. This set includes four Fabled booster packs, a Tinker Bell (Giant Fairy) "Glimmer Foil" Promo Card, a card portfolio featuring Mickey Mouse (Brave Little Tailor), and a collector's guide.
Reign of Jafar Offers Aladdin and Bambi Cards Alongside a New Co-Op Adventure
Reign of Jafar, the eighth set, is set for pre-release on May 30 and a wide release on June 6. This set continues the narrative of the Disney villain Jafar, who has now acquired the Hexwell Crown and corrupted Archazia’s Island.
The official synopsis states, "Jafar now possesses the Hexwell Crown and, with it, he has corrupted Archazia’s Island to his wicked will. Traps and illusions abound in Reign of Jafar, and glimmers like Jasmine – Steady Strategist and Rapunzel – High Climber will need to band together to steal back the crown and defeat the evil vizier."

In addition to Reign of Jafar, fans can participate in Illumineers' Quest: Palace Heist, a new co-op experience-in-a-box designed for four players to team up and challenge Jafar and his minion.
The set will feature cards such as Bambi (Prince of the Forest), Flower (Shy Skunk), Thumper (Young Bunny), Jafar (High Sultan of Lorcana), Magic Carpet (Phantom Rug), and Aladdin (Vigilant Guard), among others.
Teases of the Future Include Whispers in the Well and Darkwing Duck
At the conclusion of the presentation, Disney revealed that the set following Fabled, titled Whispers in the Well, is scheduled for Q4 2025. While details are sparse, the key art hints at the inclusion of Mickey, Ariel, and possibly characters from Disney's Gargoyles, along with a new type of Glimmer.
Looking further ahead, the team confirmed that Darkwing Duck will join Lorcana in 2026, answering many fans' long-standing requests.
Get Ready For the Disney Lorcana World Championship
The competitive scene is heating up with the Disney Lorcana World Championship set to occur on June 28 and 29 at Walt Disney World. This major tournament will feature players from around the globe competing for the prestigious title of the first annual Disney Lorcana TCG World Champion.
For those unable to attend in person, the event will be streamed live on Twitch.TV/DisneyLorcana, with commentary from a talented team of casters including Rebekah (RebekahQuests), Baker (LorcanaVillain), Liam (The Illumiteers), Brandon (Bsquared24), and JD (JDZ Quest). Additionally, there will be an opportunity to obtain a non-foil 'A Whole New World' promo card, with more details to be announced soon.
