Dishonored 2 Gets Surprise Update 9 Years After Launch

Surprise Patch for Dishonored 2 on Multiple Platforms

Dishonored 2, a critically acclaimed Bethesda title, has received a small, unexpected update across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles. This minor patch appears focused on bug fixes and language file updates. The update's size is relatively insignificant (230MB), although Xbox users report needing a full 40GB re-download.

Developed by Arkane Lyon, Dishonored 2, released in late 2016, introduced Emily Kaldwin as a playable protagonist, expanding upon the original's acclaimed gameplay and level design. While Arkane Lyon is currently occupied with the development of Marvel's Blade, the studio's sister studio, Arkane Austin (responsible for the original Dishonored and Prey), was unfortunately impacted by the 2024 Xbox studio closures.

The recent update has sparked discussion amongst fans, many expressing disappointment that it doesn't include a highly requested 60 FPS mode. Unlike other Arkane titles, Dishonored 2 remains locked at 30 FPS on current-generation consoles. The lack of a performance boost is particularly noticeable given that even the original Dishonored and its spin-off, Death of the Outsider, benefit from enhanced performance on Xbox and PlayStation systems. A potential 60 FPS patch for the game's tenth anniversary in 2026 remains speculative.

The future of the Dishonored franchise remains uncertain. The closure of Arkane Austin significantly impacts Arkane's development capacity, pushing back the possibility of a third mainline entry. For now, Arkane Lyon's focus remains on their upcoming Marvel's Blade title, with no release date currently announced.
