Dark & Darker Mobile could be getting a name change from Krafton
Krafton Ends Deal with Ironmace, Dark and Darker Mobile to Get a New Name
The mobile version of the popular dungeon crawler, Dark and Darker, is facing a name change following Krafton's termination of its agreement with developer Ironmace Studio. While Krafton claims the name change is unrelated to Ironmace's recent $6 million court loss to Nexon, the timing is certainly suspicious.
The Nexon lawsuit alleges Ironmace, founded by former Nexon employees, misappropriated trade secrets from a cancelled Nexon project (codenamed P3) to develop Dark and Darker. Despite Ironmace's own prior lawsuit against Nexon for copyright infringement, the court ruled in Nexon's favor.
Krafton's decision to sever ties with Ironmace means Dark and Darker Mobile will be released as a completely independent title, under a yet-to-be-announced name. This effectively removes Ironmace's involvement and allows Krafton to proceed with the game's global launch, currently still on schedule.
Darkest of dungeonsThe situation highlights the complexities of intellectual property disputes in the gaming industry, and the potential consequences for developers involved in such legal battles. While the future name and specific details remain unclear, Krafton's commitment to the game's release date suggests players can still anticipate the mobile experience. We will provide updates as further information becomes available.
