"Coyote vs. Acme Film May Hit Theaters Despite Cancellation"
According to Deadline, Warner Bros.' previously shelved film Coyote vs. Acme may finally be released thanks to ongoing negotiations with Los Angeles-based independent film company Ketchup Entertainment. Although the deal is not yet finalized, a successful agreement could lead to a theatrical release in 2026.
Coyote vs. Acme, announced in 2022 and inspired by Ian Frazier's 1990 New Yorker article, features a script co-written by James Gunn and stars Will Forte and John Cena. Originally slated for a mid-2023 release on Max, the film was completed but shelved, prompting a dedicated campaign to save it.
Ketchup Entertainment, known for rescuing Warner Bros.' The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie from a similar fate, is at the forefront of these negotiations. Their efforts led to The Day the Earth Blew Up becoming the first fully animated Looney Tunes movie to hit theaters, earning praise from IGN as a "laugh-out-loud riot."
Ketchup Entertainment's portfolio includes other notable films such as Hellboy: The Crooked Man, the Robert Rodriguez thriller Hypnotic starring Ben Affleck, and their co-production of Michael Mann's 2023 Ferrari biopic.
