Classic DOOM and DOOM 2 have received an update
While awaiting the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, many are revisiting the classic DOOM games. Good news! The developers have recently released an update for the DOOM + DOOM 2 compilation.
This update significantly enhances the technical aspects of the games and adds several new features. Crucially, it now supports multiplayer modifications created using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM. Cooperative play has been improved with shared item pickups and an observer mode for players awaiting revival. Network code for multiplayer has also been optimized. Finally, the mod loader can now handle significantly more than the initial 100+ subscribed mods.
Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, accessibility is a key focus. The game will offer unparalleled customization compared to previous id Software titles. Executive producer Marty Stratton highlights the team's commitment to making the game accessible to a broad audience.
Players will have extensive control over various aspects, including enemy damage and difficulty, projectile speed and damage, game pace, demon aggression, and parry timing. Importantly, Stratton confirmed that prior experience with DOOM: The Dark Ages isn't required to understand its narrative, which connects seamlessly to DOOM: Eternal.
