Chris Hemsworth's Thor Tribute Sparks Avengers: Doomsday Fears
Marvel star Chris Hemsworth has shared a tribute video for Thor, leading to speculation that the character might meet his end in Avengers: Doomsday.
The video, titled ‘Thank You! The Legacy of Thor,’ features clips ranging from Hemsworth’s early audition tapes to his role in 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder. Although it could simply be a nostalgic retrospective of a character he has portrayed since 2011—especially now that filming for Avengers: Doomsday is underway—many fans interpret it as a farewell tribute to Thor.
In the video’s description, Hemsworth included a heartfelt note:
“Portraying Thor has been one of the greatest honors of my life. Over the past 15 years, I’ve wielded Mjolnir and Stormbreaker as the God of Thunder, but what made it truly meaningful… was sharing the experience with all of you. Your passion, cheers, and love for this character have meant the world to me.
“Thank you for making my journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe unforgettable. Next up, Doomsday!”
This message, paired with the tribute video, has raised concerns among MCU fans that Chris Hemsworth might be preparing to retire from the role.
“Please never walk away from this role. We all want you to stay,” one comment on the video reads. Another said, “Please never stop playing Thor.”
Similar worries are circulating on social media. “Looks like Thor’s definitely going to die in the next movie,” one X/Twitter user remarked. “Yeah, he’s done for,” added another.

There is some context to these rumors. Last year, Hemsworth acknowledged that he "didn't stick the landing" with the polarizing Thor: Love and Thunder and expressed feeling that he owed fans another film.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Hemsworth mentioned that he leaned too heavily into comedy and improvisation for Love and Thunder, which may have detracted from the film—especially coming after Thor: Ragnarok, where the shift to humor was widely praised.
"I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself," Hemsworth admitted. "I didn't stick the landing." According to Vanity Fair, he holds himself accountable for his performance and wants to give fans a better send-off. Could Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars serve as that film, or would Thor 5 be a more fitting conclusion?

Until recently, the likelihood of Thor 5 seemed low, as Hemsworth—who has already starred in eight Marvel Cinematic Universe films—stated he is ready to "close the book" on the character. Additionally, Taika Waititi, director of Ragnarok and Love and Thunder, has stepped away due to a busy schedule.
Marvel has since pushed back the release dates for both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars to December 2026 and December 2027, respectively. The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and the two Avengers films are currently the only MCU movies with confirmed release schedules.
