CD Projekt Red confirms Ciri will be the protagonist of The Witcher 4, a decision driven by narrative progression and the potential inherent in the character. Executive producer Malgorzata Mitrega explains that Geralt's story arc concluded in The Witcher 3, leaving Ciri, a richly developed character in both the books and games, as the natural successor. Director Sebastian Kalemba highlights Ciri's younger age as a key factor, offering players greater opportunities to shape her character arc, a contrast to the established Geralt. The shift, discussed internally for nearly a decade, underscores CD Projekt Red's long-term vision for Ciri as Geralt's heir.
