The Samsung S90D is the previous-generation 2024 model. A new "S90F" model has since been released for 2025, but it costs more than twice as much. The S90D features Samsung's proprietary Quantum Dot (QD) OLED panel. QD-OLED technology produces a brighter image than traditional OLEDs while maintaining the color accuracy, wide color range, and expansive viewing angles OLED is famous for. Compared to a standard LED LCD TV, an OLED TV offers superior picture quality, near-infinite blacks, a near-infinite contrast ratio, and near-instantaneous response times.
Beyond its OLED technology, the Samsung S90D is packed with every feature you'd want in a gaming TV. It boasts a native 120Hz panel that can be overclocked to 144Hz, plus four HDMI 2.1 ports for running 4K at 120Hz on a PS5 or Xbox Series X. The S90D also supports Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). This makes it a perfect partner for the recently released PlayStation 5 Pro, which can natively run more games at 4K and 120fps in quality mode, compared to the standard PS5 that often requires performance mode for upscaled 4K.
Is this a good TV for the Nintendo Switch 2?
Even as a current-generation console, the Nintendo Switch 2 has less demanding TV requirements than the PS5 or Xbox Series X. When docked and connected to a TV, the Switch 2 can only output a 4K signal at up to 60 frames per second. It can reach 120fps at 1080p resolution, but the required data bandwidth is similar for both modes. Interestingly, it doesn't support VRR when docked—that feature is exclusive to handheld mode. Despite this, the Switch 2 will still look stunning on the Samsung's gorgeous OLED panel.
