Ananta: Project Mugen's New Name, Fresh Trailer Released
Remember Project Mugen, the exciting urban open-world RPG being developed by Naked Rain and published by NetEase? Well, exciting news! Project Mugen has officially undergone a name change and is now called Ananta. This RPG was first announced back in August 2023 at Gamescom, and after what seemed like an eternity with no updates, the developers have finally released a new trailer. They've promised more details on December 5th, but in the meantime, you can check out the official trailer of Project Mugen/Ananta.
Why the Name Change?
The developers haven't yet disclosed their reasons for the name change. Interestingly, Ananta means "infinite" in Sanskrit, which aligns well with the original name, Mugen, also meaning "infinite." The Chinese name supports this theme as well.
The gaming community is divided on this new name, but there's a collective sigh of relief that the project hasn't been abandoned. Meanwhile, players are already comparing Ananta with another upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness by Hotta Studio. Although Ananta's new trailer is slick, it doesn't reveal any gameplay, leaving Neverness to Everness in the lead for some. Personally, I find Project Mugen/Ananta visually more appealing.
Here’s Where Things Get Weird, Though
In a surprising move, Team Project Mugen has deleted all their original social media accounts, including a YouTube channel with over 100k subscribers and videos that had garnered millions of views. They've retained their Discord server and simply renamed it, but for everything else, they've started anew. This decision has left many gamers puzzled, as they could have easily renamed the existing accounts instead.
In Project Mugen or Ananta, you take on the role of an Infinite Trigger, a supernatural investigator tasked with tackling paranormal chaos. The game features a diverse cast of characters including Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
