Capcom Hints at Resident Evil 9 in Fun Video Marking 10M RE4 Players
Capcom has quietly slipped a clever Resident Evil 9 tease into a celebratory video, and eagle-eyed fans caught it.
To mark the impressive milestone of reaching 10 million players, the Resident Evil 4 development team released a short, lively video on social media today, April 25. The clip opens with Ada Wong sharing a cryptic exchange with one of gaming’s most legendary antagonists, before cutting to Leon surrounded by a party-hatted horde of infected foes making their way toward the church.
The scene then shifts to an unexpected musical moment—Dr. Salvador strums his chainsaw like a guitar (yes, seriously), while a pumped-up Leon stands triumphant. Behind him, a rustic wooden sign reads "Thank you for playing."

Here's where things get interesting: rotate that wooden sign 90 degrees, and the arrangement of its planks clearly forms the Roman numeral "IX"—a subtle nod to Resident Evil 9. While some might chalk it up to coincidence, horror game insider Dusk Golem highlighted that the lower plank seen in the final frame is noticeably absent earlier in the video, suggesting this clue was added intentionally.
One surprised fan reacted accordingly: “I know what you did here,” [said] one commenter, along with a wide-eyed emoji.
In related news, Capcom has officially announced that the next mainline Resident Evil title will be directed by Koshi Nakanishi, the visionary behind Resident Evil 7.
“I really struggled with figuring out what to do after [Resident Evil 7],” Nakanishi explained. “But I found a direction—and honestly, it feels substantial. I can’t share any details yet, but I hope you’re excited for the day I can.” Rumors suggest, and some believe confirm, that the upcoming installment will be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
