Application Description

Boerenbridge, also known in Flanders as Chinese Pooping, is an engaging card game that tests your ability to predict and strategize. Here's a detailed guide on how to play and keep track of points in this popular game.

Objective

The main goal of Chinese Pooping is to accurately predict the number of "strokes" (tricks) you can win in each round. The player with the highest total points at the end of the game emerges as the winner.

Game Setup and Play

  1. Dealing Cards: The game starts with one card dealt to each player in the first round. In subsequent rounds, the number of cards dealt increases by one each time, up to a maximum determined by the number of players. For example, with five players, the maximum number of cards dealt per player is 10. After reaching the maximum, the number of cards dealt decreases back to one card per player.

  2. Bidding: Starting with the player to the left of the dealer, each player predicts how many strokes they expect to win in the current round. The highest bidder gets to choose the trump suit for that round.

  3. Bidding Restriction: The dealer, who bids last, must not bid a number that would make the total number of predicted strokes equal to the number of cards dealt in that round. For instance, if seven cards are dealt and the first three players bid 0, 3, and 2 strokes respectively, the dealer cannot bid 2 strokes because 0 + 3 + 2 + 2 would equal 7.

  4. Playing the Round: Players take turns playing cards in a clockwise direction, with the goal of winning strokes based on their bids. The highest card of the led suit or the highest trump card wins the stroke.

Scoring

  • Successful Bid: If a player accurately predicts the number of strokes they win, they score 10 points plus the number of strokes they won. For example, if a player bids 3 strokes and wins exactly 3 strokes, they earn 10 + 3 = 13 points.
  • Failed Bid: If a player's bid does not match the number of strokes they win, they lose 10 points for each stroke they were off. For instance, if a player bids 3 strokes but wins only 2, they lose 10 points (10 * 1 = 10 points).

Example Scoring Scenario

  • Round 1: Player A bids 1 stroke and wins 1 stroke. Score: 10 + 1 = 11 points.
  • Round 2: Player B bids 2 strokes but wins 1 stroke. Score: -10 points (10 * 1 = 10 points deducted).
  • Round 3: Player C bids 0 strokes and wins 0 strokes. Score: 10 + 0 = 10 points.

Game Conclusion

The game continues until the final round, where each player receives one card again. The player with the highest cumulative score at the end of all rounds wins the game.
