Xbox Game Pass Is a Ridiculously Good Deal for RPG Fans Right Now

As a dedicated PC gamer, I've always relied on the allure of Steam sales to keep my game library fresh. However, the recent shadow-drop of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and the upcoming release of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 on Xbox Game Pass have finally convinced me of the service's value.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Both Hit Game Pass This Week

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was unexpectedly released on April 22 across PC, consoles, and Game Pass. I spent the day downloading and the night immersing myself in its revamped world. The remaster features updated character models, enhanced combat interactions, and polished visual effects, while retaining the charm of the original's quirky dialogue. The base edition, which includes the original DLCs, is priced at $49.99, with a deluxe edition available for $10 more.

Meanwhile, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the eagerly anticipated debut from French studio Sandfall Interactive, is set to launch at midnight PST tonight. It boasts a stellar 92 rating on Metacritic, with IGN awarding it a 9/10 for its compelling story and nostalgic JRPG elements. Its stylish UI and innovative turn-based combat system are particularly noteworthy. The base edition is priced at $49.99, matching the Bethesda remaster.

Although Expedition 33 was poised to be the star of April's Game Pass lineup, the surprise release of Oblivion Remastered has cast a shadow over its debut. Yet, from my perspective, having both games available through Game Pass is a win-win. Instead of shelling out $100 for two new titles, I opted for a $20 Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Now, the only challenge is finding time to step away from the screen.

Game Pass has recently added other major 2025 releases like Blue Prince, South of Midnight, and Avowed, alongside evergreen favorites such as GTA V and the entire Call of Duty series. Truly, there's something for everyone.

Game Pass Ultimate is priced at $19.99/month, offering access to the entire Game Pass library across console, PC, and cloud gaming. The PC-only version is more affordable at $9.99/month, while the Standard and Core tiers, at $14.99/month and $9.99/month respectively, do not include day-one releases. The last price increase occurred in July 2024, and with these exciting game additions, further hikes could be on the horizon.

Currently, there are no active Game Pass deals, but purchasing a three-month subscription could protect you from future price increases. For deals on other platforms, check out our PS5, PC, and Switch deal roundups. Also, U.S. preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2 go live tonight.
