Author : Scarlett Update : May 14,2025

Exciting news for fans of George R.R. Martin's epic series, A Song of Ice and Fire! This week, Martin took to his blog to announce a new addition to the illustrated editions of his saga. However, rather than providing an update on the much-anticipated The Winds of Winter, he unveiled the cover for the illustrated edition of A Feast for Crows, the fourth book in the series. This special edition will feature stunning artwork by Jeffrey R. McDonald and is set to hit the shelves on November 4, 2025. You can now preorder this beautifully crafted book from top retailers such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Target.

This announcement is particularly thrilling for collectors of the illustrated editions. The last release, A Storm of Swords, was released back in November 2020, marking a five-year gap since the last illustrated edition. The new edition of A Feast for Crows will also include a forward by acclaimed author Joe Abercrombie. Martin has promised to share some of the interior illustrations later this spring, giving fans a sneak peek before the book's release. If you're new to collecting these special editions, the first three illustrated books in the series are already available for purchase.

What About The Winds of Winter?

For those eagerly awaiting The Winds of Winter, there's still no concrete release date. In a December 2024 interview, Martin expressed concerns that he may never complete the book in his lifetime. This followed his November 2023 update where he mentioned having written 1,100 pages of the manuscript. Despite this disappointing news for fans who have waited nearly 14 years, there remains hope that the series might be completed by another author. With the fourth illustrated edition now on the horizon, it seems likely that the first five special editions will be finished before The Winds of Winter sees the light of day.
